New Delhi, January 16, 2008 (DefenceIndia News Service)

The Indian Army on Tuesday posthumously honored one of its soldiers who had died during counter-terrorist operations in Jammu and Kashmir in 2005.

Major General R K Hooda, General Officer Commanding Maharashtra, Gujarat & Goa Area presented the Badge of Sacrifice and Certificate of Honor to the parents of late Major Satyajeet Shinde at a function held in south Mumbai on Tuesday.

Shinde, who was from the Kolhapur district of the state, was posted to the 14th Battalion in Jammu and Kashmir after being commissioned in Maratha Light Infantry.

He was killed while leading a search and destroy mission against terrorists in the jungle of Chitiyar Forest of Kashmir on May 20, 2005.
