Indian Navy showcases its defence capabilities in Chennai

Chennai, December 17, 2007 (PTI)

The Indian Navy on Sunday displayed its defence capabilities here at the Marina Beach to commemorate the daring attack of the Karachi Harbour by the Indian Navy during the Indo-Pak conflict in 1971.

The colourful display was part of the Indian Navy's Navy Week with a series of events and activities, to give the civilians an insight into the need for a stronger Navy to defend the country's territorial integrity and protect the maritime interest.

The 90-minute show, at which Tamil Nadu Governor Surjit Singh Barnala was the Chief Guest, saw two Chetak helicopters carrying the Indian flag and Naval design fly past, which was followed by helicopter landing and take off demonstration.

Also on display were demonstrations of capabilities by warships, fighter aircraft and submarines.

'INS Jalashwa', a troop carrier, which was commissioned into the Indian Navy on June 5,2007 visited the city on the occasion.
