The Indian Navy on Sunday
displayed its defence capabilities here at the Marina
Beach to commemorate the daring attack of the Karachi
Harbour by the Indian Navy during the Indo-Pak conflict
in 1971.
The colourful display
was part of the Indian Navy's Navy Week with a series
of events and activities, to give the civilians an insight
into the need for a stronger Navy to defend the country's
territorial integrity and protect the maritime interest.
The 90-minute show, at
which Tamil Nadu Governor Surjit Singh Barnala was the
Chief Guest, saw two Chetak helicopters carrying the
Indian flag and Naval design fly past, which was followed
by helicopter landing and take off demonstration.
Also on display were demonstrations
of capabilities by warships, fighter aircraft and submarines.
'INS Jalashwa', a troop
carrier, which was commissioned into the Indian Navy
on June 5,2007 visited the city on the occasion.
