Hailing the contribution
of plastic surgery in the rehabilatation of disfigured
soldiers, Army Chief General Deepak Kapoor said on Friday,
"The plastic surgery has played an immense role
in treating those who fought in two World Wars and in
the Indian context it served laudably in saving many
lives in Jammu and Kashmir and North East."
While addressing the 42nd
Annual International Conference of Plastic Surgeons
2007 (APSICON) IN Pune, General Kapoor expressed concern
over the way medicine was being practiced in modern
times and called upon the community of plastic surgery
to "introspect" and refrain from turning it
into a money-making business.
Army Commandant Southern
Command Lt General Nobel Thamburaj released a special
souvenir prepared for the occasion.
Among those who attended
the conference included leading plastic surgeons Daniel
Baker and Kulwant Singh Bhangoo.
