2007 (DefenceIndia News Service)
Acknowledging that there
were disparities over the Line of Actual Control, the
Government on Saturday said the boundary with China
was "by and large" peaceful and no "incursion"
of Indian territory has taken place in the recent past.
When asked about reports
of alleged incursion of Indian territories and removal
of a few forward posts by China, Defence Minister A
K Antony told reporters in Gangtok, "I don't want
to go into details. As far as Indian territories are
concerned nothing has happened."
Pointing at the existing
relation between the two countries, Defence Minister
said both the countries have differences on the perception
of border which New Delhi and Beijing were trying to
settle through various mechanisms.
"They have their
perception, we have our own," he said.
Antony, who is visiting
border areas of Sikkim for two days beginning on Saturday,
said India has a long border with China, most of which
is settled.
"But that does not
mean that there is no problem. There have been some
minor isolated incidents along the border which we have
been trying to settle through diplomatic channels and
flag meetings. But by and large, the border is peaceful,"
he said.
Highlighting New Delhi's
role in the current situation, Defence Minister said
that as far as unsettled border is concerned, India
is trying to find a solution through negotiations as
the high level border meeting between the two countries
on.
"We are taking all
precautions to protect our nation and the people,"
he said.
Antony said it was the
continuous endeavor of the government to improve the
relations with its neighbors, including China.
