Lauding the personnel for their tough job, Vice Chief of Naval Staff Vice Admiral Nirmal Verma has announced Rs one lakh for improvement of sports facilities at the Naval headquarters in New Delhi.

While inaugurating 'Navy Day Celebrations' in the capital, Vice Admiral Nirmal Verma said, "Seeking the achievement of our staff in welfare activities, I announce Rs one lakh for purchase of sports equipment."

At the function, which was attended by senior dignitaries of the Defence Ministry, he also gave away "Awards for excellence" to employees.

Besides, the programme included songs, skits and folk dances depicting the vast cultural heritage of the country. It was aimed at portraying the life of soldiers and their families.

The year 2007 has been declared as 'Year of the Naval family' by the Navy.
