The Delhi High Court
directed the Army to consider suggestions of a petitioner
who filed a PIL seeking direction to the Army to frame
a mechanism to control growing number of suicides in
the force.
Disposing of a PIL filed
by advocate Sunil Kumar, a division bench of justice
M K Sharma and Justice Reva Khetrapal asked him to submit
copies of his suggestions to defence ministry and Army
headquarters.
The government had earlier
told the court on this PIL that the Army would start
yoga courses, classes of Art of Living and other recreational
programmes for personnel to de-stress.
The court was hearing
Kumar's PIL seeking direction to army and other defence
forces to draw a mechanism to control growing number
of suicides.
He alleged that due to
stress, personnel committed suicide and fratricide out
of "sheer frustration".
