VASCO: While lauding the Goa Shipyard Limited’s performance in exporting warships to friendly nations, the ministry of defence urged the defence public sector shipyard to focus on artificial intelligence driven technologies for shipbuilding.

Secretary for defence production at ministry of defence, Ajay Kumar arrived on a two day visit to Goa where he visited GSL and inspected the modernization and infrastructure augmentation at the shipyard.
“GSL’s unique capability of delivering ships, ahead of schedule, while working in the PSU ecosystem, is the most differentiating feature of GSL and an example for other PSUs to follow,” he said. He also urged other shipyards to emulate GSL’s export strategy and “leverage” the potential offered by the military export sector.

“Among all DPSUs, GSL’s performance in exports is exemplary. All DPSUs should leverage the opportunity available in exports, if they want to grow further. DPSUs should further try to recognize and leverage huge knowledge treasure available in the PSU ecosystem,” he said.

The ministry of defence’s stance vindicates the strategy adopted by GSL’s chairman and managing director Shekhar Mital, who is all set to retire this month.
