NAIK JADUNATH SINGH

Naik Jadunath Singh was the one who fought alone and repulsed all the attacks of raiders and smashed their courage. But couldn't stopped the arriving of the charioteer of demise. Let us flip through the pages of his life-story.

He was born on 21st of Nov 1916 in the village Khajuri. He was one of the eight sons of Birbal Singh. He was brought up in an agricultural family so he was a great devotee to motherland. Though his conventional education was held in his village school but not much interested in studies. His village surrounding helped him to be a sportsperson and he grew up as a strong and well built youngster. Since his childhood, he had been very much helpful to every one and turned as an adventurous man who had the urge to serve Army.

His firm devotion towards his motherland took him to the Army and he became a part of it on 21st Nov 1941 at the age of 26. Later he was posted to 1 Rajput Regiment (now known as 4 Guard Mechanised). Here, he was promoted to the position of Naik in July 1947. He was nicknamed "Hanuman Bhakt" as he remained bachelor throughout. In those days, there was running a grear tention in J&k and he was happened to be on a campaign of Jammu and Kashmir in 1948 at Taindhar.

It was the day of 6 feb, 1948, when he was discharging his duties on the front. He had to safeguard the land piece with only nine soldiers. He was the leader of his team. He was so stragically located that the attackers had to leave that place. But they were more in numerical strength and weapons. Raiders recollected their team and attacked on the platoon of Naik Jadunath. In this attack, his four soldiers got injured very badly. But he didn't leave his courage because he was fully aware of his responsibilities. So without loosing a minute, he scattered in that area with few of his soldiers and fired on them. Suddenly, they rushed towards the post of Naik Jadunath. It was like a shock for Indians because they were few and the enemies were more. Naik Jadunath wanted to defend his post at any cost. Most of his soldiers were injured and unable to attack on them. So Naik Jadunath snatched a bren gun ( a machine gun) from his wounded comrades and fired on invaders who had almost entered in the post. He was alone but enough to beat the invaders. Raiders were surprised on his action and they went back but Naik Jadunath was fully conscious about their rearrival. Wounded Jadunath was not worried about his weakened body and his inner spark prepared him for the final onslaught.

On another attack, Naik Jadunath tried to defend all alone the post of Taindhar at the most crucial stage in the battle of Naushera. But unfortunately, a bullet hit him on his head and he closed his eyes forever. He fought bravely and accomplished his mission of saving to the post of Taindhar.

For his conspicuous act of gallantry, he was awarded with Param Vir Chakra posthumously. The people like him always use to swing in the cradle of thoughts.

Now we again come to an another story of Gorkha Rifles…………………………..
