Durga, who is a widely worshipped deity in the Dogra Hills.

Jawala Mata Ki Jai (Victory to Goddess Jawala).
The British called all who hailed
from Rajput hill states as Dogras. First Dogra Regiment was
added to the Bengal Army on April 20, 1887, at Sialkot. After
partition, Dogra companies were absorbed from Baluch and Punjab
Regiment and the Frontier Force to raise Dogra battalions
to its present day strength.
The British Indian Army successfully
fought the Second World War largely because of Indian soldiers
like the Dogras who contributed in considerable measure to
their victory.
The Dogras climbed new heights
with General NC Vij the first officer to be commissioned
directly in the regiment who took over as the Chief
of the Army Staff.
The Third Battalion of the Regiment
has the distinction of being the first Indian Army unit to
participate in a multi-national assignment during the 1953
Korean crisis and guarded Chinese and North Korean Prisoners
of War.
The raw courage of men from
13 Dogra Battalion who fought the Chinese in the Kameng sector
in 1962 is heroic.
