The public sector unit Bharat Earth Movers Ltd (BEML)
has posted its highest ever jump in profit before tax
(PBT) at 444 per cent to Rs 272.16 crore compared to
last year.
Announcing the results, the company said it had ended
the financial year 2004-05 recording an all-time high
turnover of Rs 1916 crore inclusive of other income
Rs 53.85 crore, value of production of Rs 1860.04 crore,
while the exports stood at Rs 60 crore. However, these
figures are subject to statutory and government audit.
BEML became the first Indian company to indigenously
assemble and supply stainless steel coaches in collaboration
with Rotem to Delhi Metro.
The company is also in the process of setting up a
centre for excellence for manufacturing metro rolling
stock. It has acquired on lease 1109 acres of land from
Bharat Gold Mines Ltd with two workshops which are being
modernized and utilized for manufacture of defence items
and aggregates. The land is being utilized as a test
track for certification of defence equipments.
It also signed memorandum of understandings (MoUs)
with Terex Corporation, USA, for marketing high-end
dump trucks of 150T, 240T and 360T capacities and with
Bucyrus International, USA for 40 CuM.
