Two women naxals were shot dead in an encounter with police at Pullacheruvu village between Prakasam and Guntur district in Andhra Pradesh tonight, police said.

On receiving information that naxals were holding a meeting in the village, police surrounded the area and asked them to surrender, sources said.

When the naxals opened fire, police retaliated in self defence resulting in the death of two women naxals, police added.

Police recovered two revolvers from the site, sources added.
