A memorial in memory of martyrs
of 1965 and 1971 Indo-Pak wars was inaugurated here today
by Gujarat Governor Nawal Kishore Sharma.
The memorial is in memory of
civil and military martyrs of the Indo-Pak wars of 1965 and
1971, who along with the Golden Katar division of Indian Army
defended the country, Major General Tejinder Singh, who heads
the division in Gujarat, told reporters.
A locomotive driver, who won
the coveted `Kirti Chakra' for his exploits in 1965 Indo-Pak
war, shares the `Roll of Honour' in the memorial with martyrs
of Indian Army.
Shri Pratap's name figures alongside
that of 216 others on the 'Roll of Honour' list in the memorial
at camp Hanuman here.
"Regardless of heavy persistent
attacks by Pakistani Air Force, Pratap drove his locomotive
into Pakistani territory from Munabao in Rajasthan during
1965 war to support the Golden Katar Division which was engaging
the enemy," Singh said, adding "this effort won
him the much-coveted Kirti Chakra".
Along with the driver, there
are 16 other civilians including those from the Indian Railways,
10 police personnel and two jawans of the border security
force, who helped the army.
