Close on the heels of his successful
visit to India, President Pervez Musharraf is expected to
brief Pakistan Army commanders on his "peace strategy"
and his talks with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh during a
four-day meeting of the top brass beginning tomorrow.
Musharraf, who is also the Chief
of the Army, would be presiding over the meeting of corps
commanders, principal staff officers (PSOs) of general headquarters
(GHQ) and formation commanders to be held tomorrow at the
army headquarters in Rawalpindi, reports here said.
He was expected to give an elaborate
briefing on his talks with Singh and Hurriyat leaders as well
as the decision to pursue the peace process, specially in
Kashmir where he proposed softening of borders with various
Kashmir-specific CBMs like bus services and meeting points
across the LOC.
The meeting was expected to
take some important decisions with regard to the defence of
the country, local daily The News said.
Apart from other subjects, the
meeting will discuss combat preparedness of the armed forces,
its strategic goals and training of personnel.
Internal and external threat
perceptions would also be discussed, the newspaper quoted
officials as saying.
Also expected to figure in the
meeting were the new weapon systems like F-16s being acquired
by the armed forces.
