Indo-Pak stand-off to figure at G-8 summit
The Indo-Pak stand-off would come up
for discussion at the G-8 summit begining tomorrow at
the Canadian hill resort of Kananaskis in the context
of global campaign against terrorism, reports said.
"Relations between India and Pakistan,
situation in the Middle East and Afghanistan would be
discussed at the summit in the context of anti-terror
theme, which is one of the top priorities of the G-8,"
media reports said quoting an unnamed Kremlin official
as saying.
Effective combat against terrorism was possible within
the framework of a complex approach in resolving key
issues of international security and strategic stability,
the Kremlin official said.
He also noted the need for speedy adoption of India-sponsored
convention on combating international terrorism and
Russia-sponsored convention on countering nuclear-terrorism
by the United Nations, drafts of which were submitted
to the world body by Delhi and Moscow at the Millennium
Summit of the UN, much before September 11.
G-8 comprises Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy,
Japan, the United States and Russian Federation. At
their annual summits leaders of these most-developed
democracies discuss key problems of global economic
development and security issues.
