Militant killed in Harwan, soldier injured

Srinagar, May 25, 2005 (Daily Excelsior)

Special Operations Group of District Police Srinagar has killed a militant in Harwan area even as militants have left a soldier injured in a grenade attack in Sopore today.

Informed sources said that SOG Srinagar shot dead an unidentified militant in Chak Dhara area of Harwan in the wee hours today. While the officials insisted that the militant got killed in an encounter with Police, independent sources said that he had been earlier arrested in a Srinagar locality. The shootout has taken place in the same area where suspected militants had slaughtered four civilians last week. One of the six persons had been let off while a woman is still in captivity of the suspected militants.

Reports said that militants conducted a grenade attack on a BSF formation near Degree College in Sopore. One soldier sustained injuries. He was evacuated and rushed to hospital.
