Army team to scale Khangchen Gyao peak in October

Kolkata, September 19, 2005 (PTI)

A mountaineering team of the Eastern Command of the Indian Army would undertake an expedition to the Khangchen Gyao peak in north Sikkim in October.

The Black Cat Mountain division of the Eastern Command would scale the 6889 m peak, considered one of the most challenging in Himalayan range, during October 2-16, an official release said here.

A team of three officers, one junior commissioned officer and 10 other ranks would undertake the expedition under the leadership of Major Sanjay Thapa, who was handed over the expedition flag by Army Cdr, Lt Gen Arvind Sharma at the headquarters of Eastern Command here on Saturday.
