A 12-member team of the
Eastern Naval Command (ENC) White Water Rafting Expedition
was flagged off by Commodore PR Sangilkar, General Manager
Refit, Naval Dockyard on Friday from INS Virbahu Naval
Base.
CP Srivastava, Commanding
Officer of INS Virbahu was also present on the occasion.
This time the team will
establish its base camp at Dharasu, which is at a higher
altitude than Dev Prayag, where usually
all water rafting activities start in Tehri district
of Uttaranchal.
After acclimatisation,
the team will start its expedition from Dharasu downstream
to Rishikesh.
They will cover a distance
of 150 kms via Devprayag, Kodiyala and Shivpuri.
The team members will
interact with local people en-route and spread awareness
about Indian Navy and about the forthcoming Presidents
fleet review at Visakhapatnam, in February 2006.
The ENC team comprises
of one officer and 11 sailors from various units of
the ENC.
