New Delhi, September 24,
2005, Atul Singh (DefenceIndia)
To review 1975 border
guidelines Director General-level talks between India's
Border Security Force [BSF] and Bangladesh Rifles (BDR)
beginning here on 26 September.
In the recent past relations
between the BDR and BSF have not been cordial as there
have been several incidents when they exchanged fire
at various locations. The DG level talks will help in
building confidence measures between the two forces
guarding the borders.
BSF will seek updates
on the action taken upon BDR personnel who killed its
Assistant Commandant Jeevan Kumar and injured two jawans
at Lankamura in Tripura in April when they tried to
rescue an abducted villager.
This meeting will be held
from 26th September to 30th September. The issues like
border fencing, illegal immigration and existence of
terror infrastructure in Bangladesh are expected to
dominate the meet.
This annual meeting is
held twice a year. Earlier it was held in April when
BSF team went to Bangladesh to attend the meeting.
