Srinagar, September 22,
2005 (NDTV)
Srinagar was filled with
the screaming jet engines today, as two aircrafts of
the Indian Air Force's Surya Kiran displayed their aeronautical
skills over the Dal Lake.
Flying at a speed of around
500 km per hour, the two aircrafts seemed to be on a
collision course, during the air show.
But at the last moment,
the pilots swerved, narrowly missing each other.
The show was a spectacular
treat for the people of Srinagar, especially the children.
"It was very nice.
I had not even dreamt it," said Ishfaq Ahmad, a
student.
"It was very nice.
I would like to join the Air Force and become a pilot,"
said another student, Ishrat.
Similar air shows are
being conducted throughout the country, but to watch
the Indian Air Force pilots perform over the Dal Lake
was quite a privilege.
"We rarely get a
chance to visit the Valley. I am happy to say the response
to the show was phenomenal," said Wing Commander
S Bansal.
The main objective of
the air show was to motivate the Kashmiri youth to join
the Air Force, and the organizers certainly seem to
have achieved that.
